Lightning can strike before you hear thunder — and you don’t have to be standing directly under a storm to be at risk.
If you can hear thunder, you’re close enough to be struck.
🌩️ When thunderstorms roll in:
• Get inside a sturdy building or a hard-topped vehicle.
• Stay away from windows, doors, plumbing, and electrical equipment.
• Avoid open fields, beaches, pools, and other exposed areas.
• Never shelter under a tree.
• Wait at least 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder before heading back outside.
And remember: When thunder roars, go indoors!
